Air Force women's basketball falls to Colorado 68-43

Posted: Updated:

Air Force women’s basketball dropped a 68-43 contest to Colorado Friday night at Clune Arena.  Freshman Kaelin Immel led the Falcons with 16 points.

Air Force hung tough with Colorado for two and half quarters.  The Falcons were down just two to the Buffaloes at 38-36 with 5:08 to play in the third quarter.  Colorado closed the third quarter on a 17-0 run to go up 55-36 and eventually rolled to the win.

Kennedy Leonard scored 17 and Annika Jank added 16 points to lead CU.  The Buffs dominated the boards with their significant height advantage, 47-26.

Immel led the Falcons in scoring for the sixth time this season.  The freshman also made three of Air Force’s four three-point basket’s on the night.

Senior Dee Bennett scored eight points and pulled down eight rebounds.  Bennett also led the team with three assists.  Freshman Naomi Hughes and senior Cortney Porter scored six points each.  Freshman Sierra Rains scored the first five points in her career for the Falcons, connecting on a three for her first-career bucket.

Air Force led Colorado 15-11 after the first quarter and were down just two at 30-28 at the half.   The Falcons led by as many a nine in the first quarter, leading 15-6 at one point.

“We played with Colorado for two and a half quarters,” Air Force assistant coach Stacy McIntyre said.  “We got into some foul trouble and played flat towards the end of the third quarter.  The effort we gave on defending their screens and communicating on defense was excellent in the first half.  We just ran out of steam late against a bigger team.”

Air Force returns to action Wednesday, Dec. 20, hosting Louisville.
