COLORADO SPRINGS -

Colorado Springs Police have released the names of two officers involved in a deadly shooting over the weekend.

Officer Christopher Fernandes has been employed by the Colorado Springs Police Department since April of 2014 and is currently assigned to the Gold Hill Division.

Officer Tracy Toth has been employed by the Colorado Springs Police Department since March of 2015 and is also currently assigned to the Gold Hill Division.

On Saturday, Dec. 2nd, the officers were trying to arrest 33-year-old Christopher Louis Willard on an outstanding theft warrant. Officers have said Willard resisted arrest, and during the scuffle brandished a handgun. Both officers then drew their weapons and fired. Willard was killed in the exchange.

It was later revealed that the handgun brandished by Willard was a realistic looking air-pistol.

Per policy, both officers are now on paid leave, pending the outcome of an investigation by the El Paso County Deadly Force Investigation Team.
