Safeway Foundation donates big check to fight hunger

Posted: Updated:

Care and Share got a little extra help towards their holiday goals Tuesday, after the Safeway Foundation presented the food bank with a check for nearly $45,000.

This is part of the grocery store's 'Send Hunger Packing Program,' in hopes to make people a little less hungry this time of year. The program asks Safeway employees and customers to donate their change to the cause.

Care and Share says a little goes a long way in this case. ''Roughly fifty or so partners that we work with directly feed children, so we'll be able to transform that through our school food pantries in a variety of ways that we get food to children.''

25 Safeway stores throughout Southern Colorado took part in this drive, with most of the money being raised in just a month.
