FDA recalls purified water for infants

Posted: Updated:

If you use Kroger's "Comforts For Baby" purified water, you'd better check the sell by date. The Food and Drug Administration has ordered a recall affecting one gallon bottles with a sell-by date between 4/26/2018 and 10/10/2018. According to the FDA, a type of mold can cause a serious allergic reaction and possibly trigger an asthma attack in some children.

The FDA says the mold—Talaromyces penicillium—is not visible to the naked eye, so even if the water looks fine, it may not be safe.
People who are allergic to the mold and also asthmatic may suffer asthma attacks. And infants with HIV or other immune system deficiencies could become infected, leading to “serious health consequences,” the FDA warned.

The FDA told all consumers who purchased the water with the affected sell by date to return it to the store for a refund.
