PUEBLO -

The former treasurer of the Pueblo County Republican Party who was wanted on embezzlement charges appears to have fled the country.  The El Salvadoran National Civil Police (PNC) issued a tweet last month with a picture of a man identified as American Jeffery Gordon Fogg. The tweet states that Fogg was arrested during a traffic stop in the Escalon neighborhood on a charge of aggravated fraud.

Articles published online by El Salvadoran media outlets suggest that Fogg was wanted for stealing $100,000.

According to court records, investigators with the Pueblo Police Department obtained a warrant for Fogg's arrest last December on two felony charges of theft and unauthorized financial transactions, both for dollar amounts between $20,000 and $100,000.

Former party chairman George Rivera told News 5 in an email that he was elected to his position after Fogg's embezzlement came to light and has since assisted the 10th Judicial District Attorney's Office in filing charges.

"We were greatly concerned that Mr. Fogg was a flight risk because of his business dealings and property holdings in San Salvador so this latest development comes as no surprise," Rivera said in an email statement.

"However, considering the pending felony theft trial, what did come as a surprise was the recent article in the Pueblo Chieftain wherein Mr. Fogg was credited with a 'groundbreaking alliance' involving a 'sister city' business arrangement to import coffee and chile products from El Salvador, a business enterprise that was endorsed and highly touted by former Republican Representative for Colorado House District 47, Clarice Navarro."

According to the court records, a second warrant was issued for Mr. Fogg on November 16 for failure to appear.
