Neighbors taking extra precautions after shooting in Security

Posted: Updated:

One person was shot Sunday night at a home on San Amels Way in the Security-Widefield area, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.

Neighbors are on edge after the disturbing evening, as the suspects are still at large.

"It's a family community and it's kind of worrisome to know that someone just came to a house and just shot somebody and tried to rob them," said resident Jaied Harvey-Bushway.

According to department spokesperson Jacqueline Kirby, initial information indicated the shooting happened amid an attempted home invasion and burglary.

One person was shot and wounded, but was alive and able to speak to investigators. No information about a shooter is available yet.

A reverse emergency notification went out to residents in the area, telling them to stay insidem while deputies and police dogs actively searched for what El Paso County Sheriffs Deputies later discovered as three armed and dangerous suspects.

Resident Harvey-Bushway is taking deputies' advice and staying safely indoors, however she says there's only one thing that'll give her comfort. "To find the people because I'm still scared, like I actually lock my door now even though I'm home it's still scary, everything in my house is still locked from now on."

Deputies say one other adult and two children were also in the home at the time of the shooting. They did not sustain any injuries.

The homeowner who was shot is in recovery. The investigation is actively ongoing.
