Repurposed Helen Hunt Elementary is the new home for Family Connections

Posted: Updated:

Family Connections, a branch of Catholic Charities in Southern Colorado is among the first groups moving into the repurposed Helen Hunt school.  Family Connections moves from a downtown location where it has been for the past six years. The school was purchased and remodeled as a community resource center thanks to several million dollars donated by the Lane Foundation.

Family Connections has been operating out of the building right next to the Marion House Soup Kitchen. They are both homeless and low income resources. Family Connections leaders recognized the families they serve are very different than the typical person at the soup kitchen. "They didn't identify with the type of homelessness they would see for some of the people that are using the soup kitchen, said Catholic Charities, COO, Jennifer Polk, “They maybe didn't feel safe." The Helen Hunt location is east of downtown in a neighborhood.

Family Connections made the move Friday. They open for work at the new location Monday.
