It's finally here folks, state championship week.
Weeks, months, years of hard work all culminating in four quarters on our state's biggest stage in pursuit of high school football's greatest honor. Now that we know what's on the line let's talk about the matchups.
3A State Championship: #2 Palmer Ridge vs. #5 Erie
Palmer Ridge has had a dominant run through the playoffs thus far downing Berthoud, Rifle and Palisade on their path to the first state title trip in school history. The Bears are led by Ty Evans who has already received plenty of college interest as a junior and put up the numbers in 2017 to prove it. As for Erie, they've earned their spot in the state championship as well downing three time state champion, Pueblo East in the first round followed by wins over Durango and Longmont. Kickoff is at 1:00 PM from Falcon Stadium, if you are planning on attending the Air Force Academy's north gate will be your only access point.
4A State Championship: #6 Pueblo South vs. #1 Pine Creek
A battle for Southern Colorado headlines our 4A matchup as Pueblo South represents the Steel City with Pine Creek defending their state title from the base of America's Mountain. Let's start with the Colts who have had no trouble in the postseason blasting past Montrose, Vista Ridge and Broomfield with Zach Cozzolino under center and Steve Brock centering the Colt's ground game. Pine Creek will test how good the Pueblo South offense can be bringing a defense that knows what it takes to win state titles and an offense that can be just as explosive if David Moore III can find lanes to run through. Kickoff is at 11:00 AM from Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
Check back Saturday evening for a full list of final scores and highlights from the day's action.
