COLORADO SPRINGS -

Friday, the City of Colorado Springs announced plans for a storm water channel stabilization project along Sand Creek.

The project will allow for the creation of a 2,000-foot Fat-bike trail along Sand Creek. It will also convert an existing maintenance road into a Tier-1 multi-use trail that will eventually become part of the Sand Creek Trail.

On Saturday, Dec. 2 the city will host a gathering to provide information on the project as well as allow citizens to explore the area on Fat-bikes.

Aside from the addition of multi-use trails, the project will protect the Platte Avenue Bridge and surrounding properties from erosion and flooding. The city says it will also improve water quality for communities downstream.

The timeline for this project will be from winter 2017 to winter 2018 at a projected cost of five to six million dollars.
