Colorado Springs Police released body camera video of an officer-involved shooting from August that prosecutors ruled as justified in October.

An officer shot and killed 45-year-old Steven Young when police said he pulled a Crosman pellet pistol on officers following the chase. This happened on August 15, 2017 as police responded to a shoplifting call at the Walmart on Platte Ave.

In one of two videos released by police, an officer can be heard telling Young to stop running or he would likely face additional charges. The first video shows the pursuit and an officer finding Young near a home. Shortly after that, another officer said "he has a gun" before five shots were fired.

During the chase, officers said they lost sight of the suspect. Officer Anthony Voltz told investigators that he heard rustling in the bushes in front of a home on East Bijou, Young jumped from the bushes and was holding a weapon. It was later determined that the gun was a CO2 pellet gun.

Authorities said Young then ran in the direction of the other officers, ignoring commands to get on the ground. Officer Voltz told investigators that Young began running at him, causing him to feat that he was going to be shot. That's when he opened fire.

All of the officers, including Officer Voltz, were wearing body cameras throughout the incident. The footage from the cameras is not exact, the DA's office said the lack of lighting and the rapid movement of the officers made some of the images unclear.

Authorities said Young was wanted on four felony warrants including aggravated motor vehicle theft, fugitive from justice warrant and multiple counts of vehicle eluding.

On the day of the shooting, Young was reportedly seen driving a stolen Jeep to the Walmart. Investigators said that Young had been involved in several high speed chases in the Jeep and when the vehicle was searched, officers found CO2 cartridges and pellets consistent with the weapon Young reportedly had.

At the time of the incident, it was discovered that Young had amphetamine and methamphetamine in his system. Investigators were also able to find text messages between Young and several acquaintances in which he reportedly indicated he would not be taken alive.
