MONTROSE (AP) -

The Santa on Patrol program in Monument is back again this year and needs your help with toy donations.

Santa on Patrol was started 24 years ago by Monument Police Chief, Jake Shirk. Each year, Shirk (dressed as Santa) and a team of patrol cars and fire trucks have delivered toys to area children.

In 2016, the program delivered more than 1,000 toys to needy children in the Monument area. As of Friday Dec. 1, the program is far short of its needed amount of gifts. The program is asking for unwrapped donations of new toys, gift cards, and cash delivered to the Monument Police Department no later than Thursday, Dec. 21.

Santa is scheduled to deliver toys to the children of Monument on Saturday Dec. 23 from 10 a.m until 1 p.m.
