FREMONT COUNTY -

The man shot by deputies after a chase on Highway 50 Sunday is now facing multiple charges including arson and assault on a peace officer.

Deputies said Robert Lee Fay, 34, was the man who set an RV on fire near Coaldale and tried to hit deputies with a stolen truck. The Fremont County Sheriff's Office said a deputy shot him about eight miles west of Canon City.

Fay is now charged with first degree arson, aggravated motor vehicle theft, assault on a peace officer, menacing and reckless endangerment.

Deputies said it all started when they responded to the 16000 block of Hwy 50 in Coaldale Sunday around 5 p.m. on reports of an RV on fire. Police said the fire was suspicious, and a person of interest, later identified as Fay, left the scene in a stolen truck.

Deputies said they tracked the truck using a GPS tracker, and they found it at the top of eight mile hill west of Canon City, where the shooting happened.

Authorities have not yet identified the deputies involved in the shooting.

The shooting shut down Highway 50 for hours Sunday night, reopening at 4:30 a.m. Monday.
