Posted: Updated:
LARIMER COUNTY -

The Larimer County Sheriff's Office was notified that a 23-month old girl was missing from a residence, the child was later found unresponsive in the river 400 yards away from the cabin that her family was in.

Deputies along with LCSO Emergency Services and Search and Rescue responded to the 1500 block of West Hwy 34 in the Big Thompson Canyon, and began searching for the child. Deputies say, they found the toddler downriver about 30 minutes later.

David Moore, a spokesperson for the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, says first responders received a 911 call from the girl's mother at 9:23 a.m. Monday morning.

He says the mother told investigators she was asleep inside the cabin and when she woke up, the door was open and the child was gone.

Investigators are now trying to piece together what led to the child's disappearance and if any foul play was involved.

The coroner's office has not released the name of the girl at this time.
