Garden of the Gods moving forward with facility improvement plan

Posted: Updated:

The City of Colorado Springs will be holding a second meeting to finalize plans for restroom improvements at Garden of the Gods. The final open house will be Thursday.

The City of Colorado Springs, Parks, Recreational and Cultural Services has created a restroom facility improvement plan within the park. A previous meeting was held in October to implement the plan, which was successful, so things are moving forward.

The city says the new plan could include the replacement and expansion of the current facility at the Main Parking Lot, improve the seasonal Scotsman Picnic Area, build a new restroom at Parking Lot 10 and additional seasonal 'satellite' bathrooms in other areas within the park.

Some of the park's goals are to:

  • Increase restroom facility capacity with growing visitor demand
  • Redevelop new and/or renovate restroom facilities within the park
  • Maintain visitor satisfaction while preserving the park's natural splendor
  • Complement and blend exterior architectural designs with existing structures and conditions

Current park facilities include just one-year round building that was built in 1995, located at the Main Parking Lot for the Central Garden where a majority of traffic occurs.

The city is holding the open house to seek the public's input on making the final touches to the master improvement plan. The open house will be held Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center.

Construction of the new restrooms is anticipated to begin in Spring 2018.
