Parents should expect delays at Doherty High School

Posted: Updated:

Doherty High School is letting parents know Colorado Springs Utilities is starting a project Monday, which could cause delays in drop offs and pick ups of students.

The high school sent a letter to parents and students warning them that the project is rather extensive and will begin Monday, Nov 27. The area impacted will be on Barnes Rd beginning at Skate City and will continue onto Oro Blanco.

The school says traffic will be challenging during this time, CSPD and traffic engineers will be on the school's campus to direct any traffic issues. But parents should expect delays between 7-7:45 a.m. and 3-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Parents are encouraged to plan accordingly and possibly consider alternative drop off and pick up locations at Doherty High School. The school bus and carpooling lanes will help alleviate congestion.

The school says for parents dropping off students in the east lot, parents are encouraged to drop students off using the south parking lot as far away from Barnes as possible.

Principal Kevin Gardner sends his apologies on behalf of the school during this challenge, but is confident the traffic will be managed.
