Thousands of people are traveling home from the holiday

Posted: Updated:
COLORADO -

With the holiday weekend coming to an end, thousands of people are making their way home. Earlier in the week AAA had projected the Thanksgiving holiday to be the busiest travel holiday since 2005 in Colorado.

This includes people driving and flying, but now all of those people are traveling home. News 5 took a live look at I-25 Sunday, where thousands of drivers flooded the highway.

According to TripAdvisor, 22 percent of people will be coming home today. Another 28 percent is reported to return home later in the week.

DIA anticipated Sunday to be the busiest day of the holiday weekend. DIA urged passengers flying out of the airport to allow extra time beyond the recommended two hours before a scheduled flight.

But to pass the time, people were invited to skate at the free ice rink open from 9 a.m to 9 p.m.
