Thanksgiving weekend events in southern Colorado

Once Thanksgiving ends, Christmas begins and here are some events happening around southern Colorado this weekend.

Christmas is in full swing in Old Colorado City. The Christmas Stroll will take place on Saturday, Nov. 25th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. It will feature the Victorian Santa at the Old Colorado City Welcome Center, a change from year's past because the cabin is under repair this year.

Here is Santa's holiday schedule:

  •  November 25: 11am to 4pm and 5pm to 8pm
  • Weekends thru December 23rd: 11am to 4pm
  • Christmas Eve: 11am to 3pm
  • Location Old Colorado City Welcome Center 2324 W. Colorado – east of Bancroft Park
  • Cost $10 for the first photo, $5 for each additional photo

Old Colorado City will also be celebrating small business Saturday.

For those who want to check out downtown Colorado Springs, Saturday will be Broncos Pride day at the Acacia Park skating rink. Wearing orange and blue will get you $1 off the price of admission. Check out all of the specials and prices here.

There will also be cookie decorating and caroling at the Old Colorado City Library, 2418 West Pikes Peak Avenue, it is described as an open house event and will run from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Green Mountain Falls will be hosting the annual tree lighting on Saturday. The meeting place is the Sallie Bush Community Building for hot chocolate and cookies before waking through downtown to see the lights.

In Pueblo, every Friday and Saturday along the Riverwalk they will host Santa Boat Rides.

  •  $6.00 per person $1.00 for kids 3 and under

The entire Riverwalk will light up in a special ceremony on Friday, Nov. 24th. It starts at 5:00 p.m. and will reportedly end with fireworks.

Thanksgiving weekend marks the opening of the Pueblo Zoo's ElectriCritters. The Denver Zoo is next with their Zoo Lights kicking off on December 1st. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo's Electric Safari starts on December 8th. 

Fresh Air Friday will happen on Friday, Nov. 24th with free admission to all 41 state parks.

The Fountain Creek Nature Center will host the annual Punkin' Chuckin from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25th. The cost is $3 and will be at 320 Peppergrass Lane in Fountain.
