New details released in deadly I-25 crash

A semi truck driver trying to avoid a several car pileup is what caused a fatality in a crash along northbound I-25 at mile marker 50 in Huerfano County about 2 miles south of the Walsenburg exit.

The crash was Wednesday morning just before 6:00 a.m. It all started with the driver of a Jeep Cherokee losing control and hitting a guardrail on the right side of the interstate.

It then traveled to the left side and was sideswiped by a Prius that was passing a pickup truck. The impact sent the Jeep spinning and caused the Prius to hit the truck. Once all of the vehicles came to a stop, the drivers got out to survey the damage.

The Jeep occupants, driver 18-year-old Anthony Rodrigues of of Platteville, Colorado and the passenger, 59-year-old Manual Cobos of Mexico were standing behind the Jeep when the semi truck came upon the crash and swerved to avoid hitting the Jeep.

The truck clipped the back end of the Jeep and set it spinning, hitting Cobos and killing him. A woman sitting in the back of the Jeep, 61-year-old Cruvella Acosta of Mexico was wearing her seat belt and was flowing to a hospital in Denver.

The Prius driver,35 year-old Orion Buhler of Santa Teresa,New Mexico was not hurt. The driver of the pickup, 66 year-old Douglas Rust of Cody, Wyoming and the semi truck driver, 32 year-old Muamer Cutuk, of Peoria, Arizona also were not hurt.

Speed, alcohol and drugs are not considered factors in the crash.
