Fort Carson soldier volunteers prepare Thanksgiving meal for thousands

Posted: Updated:

Fort Carson soldiers are once again schooling southern Colorado on how to feed a crowd. “Cook 350 birds, 3,000 meals for five or six different locations here around Colorado Springs, “said Staff Sergeant Mark Scozzafaba. For Thanksgiving the post's culinary crews take on the task of doing all the cooking for the community meals offered through the Salvation Army.

"I'm very thankful for the opportunities I've been given here," said PFC John Hewston. Soldiers volunteer for the cooking mission. It is a nearly five day, around the clock job. PFC Aracely Faia enjoys seeing smiles of people getting a meal she helped prepare. "Growing up we were very limited to certain stuff like food, growing up. And it's a way to give back."
