For those cooking their own Thanksgiving meals at home, Colorado Springs Utilities has issued a FOG alert.
This is a warning for people to think about how to dispose of fat, oil and grease from those Thanksgiving birds. Their main warning is to not put the waste down the drain.
The remnants of a Turkey dinner can congeal and harden, blocking water flow that could cause back-ups, those back-ups can be very expensive to fix.
''It is the homeowners responsibility to maintain their wastewater pipeline from their home, going out to the curb or street, where it connects to the community line which is then Colorado Springs Utilities," says Natalie Watts of Colorado Springs Utilities.
CSU says to put the leftover fat, oil and grease in a container, or wipe it with a paper towel and put it in the trash instead of the drain.
