The Master Control Supervisor works one of the 5 shifts that cover our 24/7 on air operation at KOAA in Pueblo Colorado.   In addition to working a master control shift, knowing all Master Control Operator (MCO) responsibilities listed below is more critical.  The Supervisor will track the performance of all other master control operators, as well as train operators when needed.  The supervisor will work a few extra hours each month to “parallel” a shift to insure efficient operations, as well as identify areas of improvement in systems, procedures, and personnel.

Master Control Operator responsibilities: 

  • Familiarity and operation of Harris/Imagine Communications ADC automation System which operates all of our recordings, playback systems, and dish controls
  • Manually tune Ericsson satellite receivers and tune in microwave radio dishes and receivers for the news trucks in the field. 
  • Perform editing with Harris Velocity, and Nexio Video servers.
  • Check paper and system logs for accuracy, adjust air playback logs for correct timings, insert “Clock” times for network events, monitor and prepare system for prime-time on our NBC and NFN sub-channel (24hour local weather channel called News First Now), as well as GRITTV our 3rd sub-channel
  • Edit daily news teases on Velocity Editing System, setup record events for day-of-air show recordings on Tandberg and Ericsson IRD systems
  • Segment and check Closed Caption (CC) on recorded shows
  • Purge daily shows from ADC automation database and Harris MediaBase, receive syndicated shows from Pathfire and PitchBlue systems, ingest Paid shows from DVCPRO tapes.   Advise producers in the News team regarding any timing or broadcast issues, Record incoming News feeds local and national
  •  “Trim” the recording on video server, monitor broadcast video and audio quality, monitor signal strength conditions hourly, create discrepancy reports for any system or log issues
  • Run Newsticker crawls and crawls for weather and E.A.S notifications
  • Download, edit and quality check commercials from multiple sources including; Extreme Reach, Javelin FTP, and local production spots, manually run breaks for live events, and operate Harris Iconmaster MCO HD router.
  • Complete paper logs as required during each shift.?
