George Brauchler drops out of Governor's race

Posted: Updated:
DENVER (AP) -

The district attorney who prosecuted the Aurora theater case is abandoning his race to become Colorado's next governor and running for state attorney general instead.

George Brauchler announced the switch Monday.

The move had been anticipated since Republican Attorney General Cynthia Coffman announced she was entering the governor's race last week.

The field is crowded and Brauchler had faced competition for conservative support in the governor's race from former congressman Tom Tancredo.
