Single car crash results in five injuries, one life threatening

COLORADO SPRINGS -

The Colorado Springs Police responded to a single car accident resulting in five injuries, one life threatening Friday night. The incident happened after 11:00 p.m., where an officer from the Sand Creek Division was working an unrelated case saw a dark colored pick up truck traveling at a high rate of speed on South Union Boulevard.

Reports say, the officer then heard a crash and began to drive south on South Union Blvd towards the scene. Power lines in the area began to fall around the police vehicle, he was then able to locate the scene of the accident on foot.

The officer said, he located a single vehicle accident involving the dark pickup truck he had seen speeding down the road. The vehicle struck a power line and continued south off of the roadway near Prospect Lake.

According to the police report, the car then collided with a tree, with five occupants in the car including the driver. All five occupants were transferred to local hospitals, two passengers sustained minor injuries. The other two sustained serious but non-life threatening and one passenger experienced serious life threatening injuries.

The CSPD Major Accident Unit responded to the scene and took over the investigation, the investigation is ongoing. Investigators said, speed and alcohol are considered factors in this incident.
