Cycling teams donate big check to new Children's Hospital

COLORADO SPRINGS -

Cycling teams across Southern Colorado have raced to raise over $67 thousand dollars for the new Children's Hospital Colorado Springs. The Courage Classic Cycling teams were able to raise $67,658 for the new hospital.

The Courage Classic is a two-day bicycle tour in northern Colorado, which covers 157 miles over a number of mountain passes.

A check was presented to the hospital Friday from "Courage from the Springs" rider, Noah Devolve to the Director of Philanthropy for the Hospital Jenny Stafford.

Noah is very familiar with all Children's Hospital Colorado has to offer. An hour after Noah was born, he started to turn blue, but doctors at Memorial Hospital couldn't figure out why. He was immediately airlifted to Children's Hospital in Denver where doctors punctured a hole in his heart to let blood flow properly.

This saved Noah's life as he successfully had open-heart surgery 18 days later, and is now a healthy high schooler at The Classical Academy.

The donation was made on behalf of the local cycling teams from Pikes Peak region who participated in the Courage Classic, including Courage From the Springs, Air Academy Federal Credit Union Flyers, Fools With Tools, Endofrins, GE Johnson Construction and Team Compassion.

The new hospital is being built at Briargate Parkway and N Union Blvd, the hospital will be the region's only comprehensive children's hospital being able to offer care to more than 225,000 kids in Southern Colorado.

The hospital is set to open in 2019.
