Students put flags on hundreds of Veteran grave sites to honor heroes

Posted: Updated:

Although Veterans Day is tomorrow, some Westside Springs students are honoring our fallen heroes today. The children wanted to make sure the heroes buried at Fairview Cemetery are not forgotten.

Students from North Middle School teamed up with Midland Elementary School to put flags at the grave sites of 432 Veterans. This is in part of a joint service learning project that started in August.

Originally, it was thought that only 200-300 soldiers were buried there, but after walking the headstones, the students realized some had been overlooked.

'' Yea, it makes me feel good to know that putting, like I'm respecting the people that have fought for our country that I didn't get a chance to acknowledge,'' said eighth grader Teneesha Anderson.

Fairview Cemetery sits one half mile south of Hwy 24 on 26th Street. For more on Veterans Day events and deals around town click here.
