Body of adult and child found in burned home on E Cucharras St

Posted: Updated:

Colorado Springs Police are investigating a structure fire at a home in the 700 block of East Cucharras Street.

Lt Howard Black with Colorado Springs Police says one child and one adult are confirmed dead at the scene. A 2-year-old child was flown to Denver for emergency treatment in critical condition.

According to the Colorado Springs Fire Department, fire was dispatched to the area around 2 p.m. for a possible structure fire. Responding crews did not see a fire upon arrival, however made their way into a smoke filled duplex.

One half the duplex had smoke down to the floor, as first responders found a small fire in the residence. A primary search was conducted, where the two-year old was found in critical condition.

An adult male and 6-year old child were found dead at the scene. The scene will be treated as a crime scene for now until the investigation proves otherwise.

Neighbors in the area told our News 5 reporter Lena Howland a firefighter was giving a 7-year old CPR outside of the home that caught fire.

CSFD says the other half of the duplex did not sustain any damages from the fire, however the adult female and dog residing in the home were able to get out in time.

Police say the scene will remain very active throughout the day.
