Final Scores: Fever Playoffs

Posted: Updated:

Now that all classes are into post season play, every single game counts even more than it did a week ago. 2A is already into the quarterfinals in their playoff race and we start with a familiar match up. (The numbers next to each team reflects their seed in their respective bracket. RPI numbers are over with.)

Final: La Junta 21, TCA 14

Final: Pueblo South 41, Montrose 7

Final: Pueblo West 49, Standley Lake 3

Final: Rampart 24, Monarch 14

Final: Vista Ridge 39, Fruita Monument 34

Final: Durango 49, Canon City 21

Final: Erie 22, Pueblo East 21

Final: Palisade 27, Discovery Canyon Campus 7

Final: Palmer Ridge 48, Berthoud 13

Final: Pine Creek 34, Golden 0

Final: Eaglecrest 35, Fountain-Fort Carson 14

2A - #5 TCA @ #4 La Junta: For the third time in two years, these two will face off. Since the Titans moved down to 2A football, they have been squarely in the middle of the playoff hunt and La Junta has seemed to be their foil. The defending 2A champs knocked off TCA in the regular season last year on a Hail Mary touchdown in the Springs. La Junta was the dominant team in 2A last year and have proven to be just as strong in 2017. They only allowed 36 points in league play and are undefeated at home, including a 14-11 win vs. TCA in Week 4. The Titans would love another crack at them. Whoever wins on Saturday, they will take on #1 seed Platte Valley in the semi-finals.

3A - #12 Pueblo East @ #5 Erie: Consider the East Eagles your George Mason, your VCU, your Northern Iowa of the 3A bracket. NO ONE saw them making an undefeated run through their league to finish the season 5-5 and lock up a spot in the post season. No one except Pueblo East. Erie will have their hands full with the likes of Luc Andrada and Kain Medrano. Many wrote them off after an 0-5 start to the season but they are rolling. They are the 3-time defending 3A champs after all. Do not be surprised if they wind up back in the title game again.

4A - #9 Monarch @ #8 Rampart: Check the temperature of the Rams at the same time as the Eagles in 3A because they are hot. Winners of five straight, Rampart rolls in with a ton of momentum. Keion Cross and the rest of the offense have lit it up in that run and their defense allowed only 33 points in those fives games. BUT let's go back to the week three - Monarch topped Rampart 14-7 on the road. Two different teams at that time, for sure. A win for Rampart and a likely semifinal match up with top seed Pine Creek at District 20 Stadium next Saturday.

4A - #13 Standley Lake @ #4 Pueblo West: Its been 10 years since the Cyclones won their only state title in football and they have a great chance at their second. West has won four of their last five games coming into Saturday's playoff game with Standley Lake. West's best game plan for Saturday is not to change anything - keep pounding the rock with Pierre Taylor and let their stingy defense keep them in games. If West wins they likely face Chatfield in the quarterfinals, one with huge implications.

5A - #15 Fountain-Fort Carson @ #2 Eaglecrest: For the second straight year, the Trojans made it into the field of 16 by way of their healthy RPI standings despite a 4-6 record. Still, they have a chance to play the ultimate spoiler role against Eaglecrest, a team many have in the 5A final four.

3A - #15 Berthoud @ #2 Palmer Ridge: The Bears capped off an undefeated regular season but can they now make it an undefeated post season and win their first state football title.

3A - #11 Discovery Canyon @ #6 Palisade: The bridesmaid in 3A for many years, can the Thunder make an under the radar run to a repeat title game performance after a 4-1 league performance.

3A - #16 Harrison @ #1 Mead: Are the Panthers the team that went 8-0 to start the year or the team that went 0-2 to finish? We'll find out vs. the top seed on Saturday.

3A - #13 Durango @ #4 Canon City: Can the Tigers make good on their first playoff appearance since 2014?

4A - #16 Golden @ #1 Pine Creek: Can the Eagles win their fourth state title in the last five years? It starts with a win vs. Golden, Friday night.

4A - #11 Montrose @ #6 Pueblo South: They've got all the talent in the class to win a state title, time to realize it.

4A - #14 Vista Ridge @ #3 Fruita Monument: Can the Wolves take their game on the road? Only one win away from home this season.
