Iconic Fire Station One reopens in Colorado Springs

Posted: Updated:

Fire Station One in Colorado Springs re-opened Tuesday. A ceremony was held for the downtown Colorado Springs icon, as they introduced the new station with some very needed upgrades.

Not long ago there was talk about moving or even closing the station, built in 1925, which was the first fire station in Colorado Springs. There are now 22 stations in the city.

Council President and downtown business owner Richard Skorman says the station's presence is more important than ever before. ''We all have this, in this downtown station, older homes, older buildings, and what a great opportunity to have the station be modernized to be able to do the great work that you do."

Station One still has slide pole access, but now offers more than three million dollars in expansion, improvements and energy efficient systems.
