Colorado ranked last on 'fattest states in America' list

After recent data released from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Colorado has made dead last on the list of the 'fattest states in America.' The recent data showed that seven in 10 US adults ages 20 and older are either overweight or obese, but not in Colorado.

However, rates are lower for children and adolescents but have risen steadily almost every year. Wallethub.com recently published an article with a Fattest Cities in America report, ranking Colorado as #51 on the list. 

The state received top five in having the lowest percentage of obese adults in America, also in the lowest percentage of obese children. The report shows some of the most physically active adults live in Colorado as well, go us! 

Colorado was ranked top five in health categories such as lowest percentage of adults with high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and adults eating more than one serving of fruits and veggies per day. 

The study was conducted by WalletHub's analysts comparing the 50 states and the District of Columbia across data ranges from obese and overweight populations to sugary drink consumption among adolescents to obesity-related healthcare costs. 

Americans are expected to spend more than $68 billion on programs designed to help shed those extra pounds. According to the article, the US spends nearly $200 billion in annual health care costs related to obesity. 

New findings by the Physical Activity Council suggests a more aggressive approach to combat this issue. Data also showed that nearly 81.5 million Americans ages six and older were completely inactive in 2016.

  2. West Virginia
  3. Tennessee
  4. Arkansas
  5. Louisiana

The five least 'fattest states in America according to WalletHub are:

  1. Colorado 
  2. Massachusetts
  3. Utah
  4. Hawaii
  5. Montana
