Penrose-St. Francis Hospital celebrates a special birthday

Posted: Updated:
COLORADO SPRINGS -

A milestone 100th birthday party was celebrated at Penrose-St. Francis Hospital North in Colorado Springs, Monday. The guest of honor has worked at the hospital for almost 25 years.

But, Monday she and a few others came together in celebration of the other 75 years of her life. Oral Allen is 100 years young, she is originally from Iowa, grew up in Illinois and came to Colorado for her oldest son's health.

She says what keeps her going are friends, family and her job. Allen is a happy great, great grandmother.

''I don't mean to preach or anything, but I don't think God put me on this earth just to take up space ...so I work.''

Allen says she'll continue to work as long as the hospital will have her.
