Those living in the Fountain Creek RV Park still remember the 2014 night when the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of animal cruelty by Devin Kelley, the man accused of killing 26 people and injuring dozens of others inside a rural Texas church Sunday.

“I just remember them blocking off the entrance and going through trailer to trailer because he was hiding in a trailer,” said Jeremy Bernardelli who lived in the RV park at the same time as Devin Kelly and his wife Danielle.

Those living in the park located off of Colorado Avenue in Old Colorado City appear stunned to learn Kelley used to be a neighbor.

“It’s scary to know who your neighbor is if you really don’t know them, it happens everywhere I guess, you could walk right next to a murderer or a rapist and not know it,” said Bernardelli. “To me it’s just, this might be sad to hear, but it’s just an every day thing nowadays to me.”

Ken Holcomb is moving into the RV park and was surprised to hear of Kelley’s local connection.

“I saw the sign behind and I said, that’s where I’m going to move so yeah, just shocked,” said Holcomb.

Management at the RV park declined to speak on camera with News 5, but told us in a statement they remember the Kelley’s living in the park and said the couple was asked to leave after the animal cruelty citation in 2014.
