Posted: Updated:
COLORADO SPRINGS -

A dedication ceremony for WWII, Medal or Honor Recipient William J. Crawford is being held next weekend, Nov 11 in Palmer Lake. Crawford was a resident of Palmer Lake, born in May of 1918.

A Memorial Site was constructed to resemble the U.S. Army Medal of Honor Star, construction started in June 2017. Crawford's daughter Beverly Kite and her family will be at the event as well as the El Paso County Commissioner, Terri Carver Colorado State District Representative, local dignitaries, the Tri-Lakes community and some members of the Air Force Academy Class of 1975 who discovered Mr. Crawford working at the Academy in the early 1970's.

An Air Force Squadron will be the Honor Guard, multiple guests, speakers and the Monument Boy scouts will be performing at the event. Guest speaker Robert McLaughlin, Colonel U.S. Army (ret), will be reflecting on a summary of Crawford's life achievements provided by his daughter Beverly.

A Colorado Levitative Tribute will be presented to Mrs. Crawford. A dedication for the newly installed flag pole by the American Legion Tri-Lakes 9-11 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Crawford Post 7829 will be held.

Wounded Warrior USA is supporting the Crawford Memorial Committee allowing them to use their non-profit status for 'Gift in Kind' by memorial supporters. The memorial is 40 feet in diameter with extra-large local rocks surrounding the exhibit.

The Crawford Memorial Committee is made up of fellow veterans from the Air Force, Navy and Army. A website was built by the committee in honor of the fallen hero.

Major donations were generously contributed by dozens of local companies. The event is being held at the North entrance of Palmer Lake, off County Line Road on Saturday November 11, at 10:00 a.m.
