Forecast models trending to big ski country snow!

Posted: Updated:

Good news ski lovers of Colorado, the forecast models have been trending towards snow over the weekend, just in time for a few more ski resorts to open next Friday!

Arapahoe and Loveland Basin have already been open since mid October thanks to some early mountain snow and cold air, but Breckenridge, Keystone and Copper Mountain are set to open next Friday on November 10th.

We've already seen snow through the mountains helping to build a base across those resorts, but old nighttime air and snow machines have made all the resorts good to go for next weekend.

What's more exciting is we have been and are seeing good snow chances for the Continental Divide this weekend, meaning we might add several inches of fresh powder just in time for opening day!

The Jet Stream is going to turn westerly bringing VERY moist air into the mountains embedded with several shots of energy leading to great snow chances from late Saturday through Monday.

Our forecast models, picking up on this moist jet stream air, have been pretty consistently showing good snow for the mountain resorts from late Saturday sometime through Monday or Tuesday.

Below are some of the model outputs from one of our long range models, the GFS. This is still early so these snow totals will be FAR from exact, but it gives us a fun, early look at some of the potential for snow in the resorts.

As you can see, most of the resorts around the I-70 region are looking to see anywhere between 3 to 6 inches of snow by early next week! All modeling has been pointing at some places seeing up to and over a foot of snow, and clearly the GFS has its eye on the Crested Butte and Aspen areas being one of those spots.

We'll surely see some changes in the model overnight leading up to Sunday when most of the snow falls, so stay tuned to the forecast and lets hope for some of the bigger forecast amounts to get a big base built up for the season!
