5 Games to Watch on Friday Football Fever: Week 10

Posted: Updated:

Two games on Thursday night were a very good taste to get us ready for Friday night.

#1 Pine Creek wrapped up an undefeated league schedule by beating #18 Mesa Ridge, 48-14.

#9 Pueblo South stunned the 4A Colorado football landscape with a 53-24 win vs. #6 Ponderosa. The Mustangs were previously unbeaten.

Here are five games to watch on Friday night as the regular season ends. Remember the numbers next to each team are the RPI number in each classification in the CHSAA RPI Standings.

GAME OF THE WEEK - 4A #14 VISTA RIDGE VS. #13 RAMPART: This is one is for all the marbles.... sort of.  But it is our Game of the Week for a reason. The Wolves and Rams will battle for the 4A Pikes Peak League title and the winner of that will host a first round match up in the first round. Both teams will make the playoffs (likely) due to their RPI standings, a loss for either team won't hurt them. Rampart's offense is no secret with Keion Cross running the offense and handing off to Jackson Beale, Chris Yoo or Seth Sheppard. Vista Ridge is much the same with lots of plays starting and ending with Jaylen Thomas. The Wolves have won three in a row coming in. Rampart has won four in a row.

4A #4 PUEBLO WEST VS. #16 WIDEFIELD: The Cyclones post season future is secure but Widefield is sitting right on the bubble in the 4A RPI standings at 16. The Gladiators can't afford a loss to remain in the playoff picture, which makes this a must win for Widefield. Nick Olney has done great stuff in two years with the program, it would be a treat to see them in the post season. TJ Davis is averaging almost 220 all-offensive yards a game with 27 touchdowns on the season. The Widefield defense will have to try and tangle up Cyclones running back Pierre Taylor who averages 130 yards a game on the ground with 16 touchdowns. Their defense has also been stingy since their only loss of the season to Pine Creek three weeks ago.

3A #10 HARRISON VS. #16 DURANGO: Despite an excellent regular season, Harrison could be on the bubble for making the 3A post season. After their loss to Pueblo East in week nine, Harrison took a step back in the RPI Standings and in the 3A South Central League. They can't win the league from the Eagles but if they beat Durango they can have a share of the title and finish the regular season at 9-1. Harrison takes care of all that speculation with a win vs. Durango on Friday night. A heavy dose of Orlando Westbrook and Aumerie Shedrick should help things for the Panthers. We'll see how their game travels the six hour bus ride.

5A #19 DOHERTY VS. #29 BOULDER: Spartans are on the outside looking in the 5A RPI at #19, a win at Boulder would help them. Another key element for the Spartans? Head Coach Jeff Krumlauf is expecting his first child and Baby K is scheduled to arrive on game night. Doherty didn't do themselves any favors with a lopsided loss to Grandview in week eight. If they can finish league play 4-1 (7-3) overall they will have a chance at the post season.

5A #1 VALOR CHRISTIAN VS. #14 FOUNTAIN-FORT CARSON: Same scenario for the Trojans except they are on the inside looking in. At #14 in the 5A RPI standings, FFC has a chance to make it 12 straight playoff appearances. Valor is the best team in 5A and it will be a challenge for the Trojans.
