2nd phase of John Venezia Community Park set to open Nov. 4

COLORADO SPRINGS -

The second phase of the John Venezia Community Park is officially set to open Nov 4. in Colorado Springs.

The design of the park is ranch-themed with where visitors will be able to experience some Colorado history when the state was mainly used for ranching. The park will have a ranch house, barn, horse corral, watering hole, apple orchards and grazing areas.

The park has three large pavilions, three multi-use artificial turf fields, a universal playground, in-line hockey rink, basketball court, six tennis courts and four pickleball courts. This is the second phase of the park, the first phase was opened on July 8.

Funding for the park was made through the Trails, Open Space and Parks (TOPS) Program, Parkland Dedication Funds (PLDO) and a Great Outdoors colorado Grant. The cost of the park is $13 million.

Mayor John Suthers and Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Director Karen Palus will speak at 9:30 a.m. on Nov 4., following the official opening of the tennis and pickleball courts at 10:00 a.m.

    Fremont County Deputies were dispatched to the 800 block of Drake in Canon City on reports of people attempting to trespass into storage units.  The reporting party told deputies that there were "suspicious people" at the storage units trying to unlock the units attempting to get in.
