Driving is a big concern in the winter and its important to be prepared for the conditions you may face during the season.
Make sure your car is ready to go with good tires, a windshield scrapper, and an emergency kit. An emergency kit can include:
- Food and water
- Flashlight and batteries
- Extra layers
- First Aid Kit
- Cat litter, sand, salt
- Cell phone and charger
- Emergency signals
Always know the forecast and be aware of changing conditions, especially in the mountains.
If you have to go out, plan on needing extra time when the weather gets bad.
Drive carefully. Accelerate and brake slowly. Leave extra distance between your car and the car in front of you.
High winds can cause low visibility and whiteout conditions so keep your headlights on when visibility is low so that other cars can see you.
Be aware of the weather before you head out each day and take your time when conditions deteriorate.
