Free dental care clinic to help thousands in need

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of people were gathered outside the Event Center at the Colorado State Fairgrounds in Pueblo early this morning to wait their turn for free dental care. The two day event is hosted by Colorado Mission of Mercy and is open to everyone!

Almost 2,000 people are expected to get free dental care this weekend, but it’s first come, first served.

Volunteer dentists will be at the Southwest Motors Events Center doing cleanings, fillings, root canals, and other services.

A free toothbrush and toothpaste will also be handed out as well as information on low-income dentistry in the Pueblo community.

Co-site Chair Karen Perko said, "It's so important because there's a lot of people who don't have dental coverage and they work hard...they can barely get food on the table. We want to be a service to them, to serve their family...I've been in dentistry for over 40 years in Pueblo and I just see the need, and it's huge and I'm just really excited that people are going to get served.”

People will also be able to get free flu shots.

The event is Friday and Saturday from 6 a.m. - 6 p.m.
