Aurora theater shooting victim's family start 'Project Hope Baskets' for Vegas

Posted: Updated:

When tragedy struck in Las Vegas earlier this month, it brought back a lot of emotions for the Medley family in Cañon City.

In 2012, Caleb and Katie Medley were victims in the Aurora Theater Shooting.

'Until it happens to you and your family its hard to understand what it feels like,' said Katie Medley. 'We know what its like to go out  and have a good time and have that completely ripped away from in just a matter of minutes, so we're just hoping that some of the things that helped us in our time of need might be able to help some people down there.'

Katie and her sister-in-law Megan Medley decided to do something for the first-responders and the victim's families in Las Vegas.

The idea started from something Megan originally did a couple of years ago, she created baskets for law enforcement with treats and gave them out.

'When my sister in law approached me she said hey what if we did something like you were doing for law enforcement, what if we did something like that for the Vegas victims,' said Megan Medley.

The Medley's are asking for the following items to donate: Bottled Water, Gatorade, Protein Bars, Gum, Trail Mix, Meat Sticks, Gift Cards, Chapstick, Snack Foods, Hand Sanitizer, Drink Packets, Candy, and Notes of Encouragement.

'We just want people to know that there is support out there,' said Katie Medley.

The group plans to travel to Las Vegas on July 23rd, drop off locations have been set up in Cañon City, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Florence.

Additional drop-off locations have been added in Denver and Aurora as well.
