The Mitchell High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) will donate $1,000 to the Red Cross to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Maria Thursday.

The JROTC Cadets will present a check to the executive director of the Red Cross, Southeastern Colorado office Thursday morning.

Harvey caused catastrophic flooding in the Houston area in late August, forcing thousands from their homes and starting a recovery process that is still underway for many in the area.

Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico just a few weeks after Harvey on Sept. 20. Three weeks after the storm, NBC News reports 90 percent of the island is still without power.
