Trial underway for driver accused of crashing into students

Posted: Updated:

COLORADO SPRINGS - Jury selection started Wednesday for 61-year-old Douglas Clubb, who was charged with child abuse and traffic violations after a crash that injured four Colorado Springs elementary students in January 2017.

He's accused of running over the students in the intersection of Chelton Road and Pikes Peak Ave. The students were walking to school when they were hit by a car making a right turn, according to police.

Witnesses say five men lifted the car off of the students after the crash. One student was critically injured.

Clubb pleaded not guilty to child abuse and several traffic violations on July 10.

Authorities said Clubb did not leave the scene of the accident and cooperated with authorities.
