COLORADO SPRINGS -

The Colorado Student Media Association (CSMA) is honoring a District 11 administrator for her support of student media at Early College High School in Colorado Springs.

The CSMA will honor Aurora Umana-Arko with its administrator of the year award on Oct. 19 during its opening session at Colorado State University.

In a letter to Umana-Arko, the association said its selection committee was "bowled over" by her dedication to education and her support for student media.

The administrator of the year award is presented annually, and Umana-Arko is the 22nd recipient of the honor. According to the CSMA website, the award is earned through providing resources and equipment for students to learn, hiring qualified teachers and providing leadership with the curriculum taught to students.

Early College High School allows students to earn a high school diploma and an Associate's degree or college credit that can be used for a Bachelor's degree.
