Posted: Updated:

COLORADO SPRINGS - Yelp and Realtor.com partnered up to create a list of the "50 Hottest Hipster Markets" in America, leaving Colorado Springs at number 10 on the list.

This list was created to identify the most in-demand housing markets for home buyers looking to embrace the indie culture with the highest concentrations of "hipster" businesses in the U.S.

According to realtor.com the Colorado Springs market offers natural beauty, nearby world-class skiing, hiking and a lower unemployment rate, as well as cost of living than other cities in the state.

Realtor.com says the hipster hot spot in Colorado Springs is "Shuga's" located at 702 S. Cascade Ave.

Shuga's is a sandwich, tapas bar with a lot of positive reviews available on Yelp.

According to statistics provided on realtor.com the median price to buy a home in Colorado Springs is $337,000. On average, each household earns a little more than $37,000 per year.

Realtor.com says millennials make up 16.8% of the population in Colorado Springs, and have a median household income of almost $44,000 a year.

The unemployment rate is a reported low 2.7%.

Yelp data shows that mentions of "hipster" occur across a wide range of businesses including music venues, dive bars, restaurants, barbers and vinyl record shops.

The average star rating of businesses with the mentions of "hipster" in the top 10 markets averages four stars.

“Yelpers are great at identifying up-and-coming areas and businesses, which allows us to predict trends as well as uncover detailed data on what’s happening in local economies right now,” said Carl Bialik, Yelp data editor. “While ‘hipster’ is something of a cliche, it turns out to be a useful term to uncover the types of businesses and attributes we often associate with cool hunters, such as visually appealing interiors and less touristy parts of town.”
