Palmer Lake .5K

Posted: Updated:

It may be one of, if not the, most unusual fundraiser running races in southern Colorado. Hundreds turned out Sunday morning for the Palmer Lake .5K.

That's half a kilometer, or barely a third of a mile, a mere 1,660 feet. A total walking time of about 10 minutes.

As if that wasn't enticing enough, there were free donuts at the Midway point of just 830 feet, and a free beer or soda after the finish line at O'Malley's Pub.

The .5K is in its third year as a fundraiser for "Awake Palmer Lake", which aims to keep the lake full and protect and improve the area surrounding it. They hoped to raise $25,000 with the event.
