Vape shop broken into multiple times since January

Posted: Updated:
COLORADO SPRINGS -

For Bob Wirth, the A Vape Shop on Academy Place in Colorado Springs was something he saved up for years before opening it in January of this year.

Not even a year into business, Wirth says in the last 9 months his shop has been broken into twice.

As he waits for the last insurance claim to get processed, he says this recent break-in will set him back thousands of dollars.

'I hope at the end of the month to be able to have a dollar in my pocket which may or may not happen and this month pretty sure it's not,' said Wirth.

The security footage from Wirth's store shows what appears to be 2 younger individuals throwing a rock into the main window and breaking 2 of the glass cases in the store.

The suspects ended up destroying most of the merchandise in the cases.

'I'm very disappointed it shows that a lot of the young people don't realize how hard a guys gotta work, or lady to be able to keep a business going,' said Wirth.

'You make it week to week month to month with a small business,' said Wirth who added that the damage could be upwards of $8,000.

The shop is well-equipped with security cameras, Wirth says he's looking into possible added bars the the windows of the store.

Wirth says he hopes the suspects get caught and eventually arrested, 'they have no care about anybody's property or time or money.'

Colorado is collecting so much money it may be required to send more than $200 million back to taxpayers over the next three years.  It's a surprising turn from this time a year ago, when lawmakers cleared out room under the state revenue cap to avoid budget cuts.
