CSP considering drugs and alcohol factors in fatal crash

Posted: Updated:

BENT COUNTY - The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) is investigating a two car crash resulting in one fatal injury on Bent County Road 32 from late August.

According to CSP a Ford Ranger was traveling northbound on Bent County Road 32 while a Chevy Silverado was traveling westbound on Bent County Road NN. CSP says when the Silverado entered the intersection it's left front collided with the Ranger's right front.

The Ranger was reportedly pushed onto County Road NN and began to rotate when it rolled a quarter time before coming to a rest. The Silverado continued westbound, going off the right side of the road and coming to a controlled stop in an open field.

The driver of the Ranger was identified as 69-year old Ricard Cruz Jimenez of McClave, but was unrestrained at the time of the crash. Bent County Coroner says Jimenez sustained fatal injuries leading to his death.

The driver of the Silverado is identified as 53-year old Bradford Owens of McClave, who was also unrestrained at the time of the crash. Reports say Owens did not sustain any injuries related to the crash.

CSP says drugs and alcohol are being considered contributing factors, but the primary cause being investigated as failing to yield right of way.
