COLORADO - Senator Cory Gardner has returned from a Congressional Delegation trip to Puerto Rico. Gardner was asked by the White House to attend in his role as Chairman of the Energy Subcommittee.

Four of his senate colleagues joined, along with senior officials from the White House, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Defense were also in attendance.

“It was important to see the hurricane damage first-hand and meet with Governor Ricardo Rossello and our first responders who have been working so hard to help the people of Puerto Rico,” said Gardner.

“Our first priority must be restoring power to 100 percent of the island and I will continue working with the Administration to achieve this goal as quickly as possible. I am committed to finding both short-term and long-term solutions to help our fellow Americans.”

According to a press release Senator Gardner competed an aerial tour of the most damaged parts of Puerto Rico, as well as participate in briefings and plans for the next steps towards cleanup efforts and power restoration.

Gardner met with Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossello and other local officials and leaders in the community.

Reportedly more than 90 percent of the American island is still without power.
