Dozens gather to make trail improvements to honor Tim Watkins

Posted: Updated:

COLORADO SPRINGS - Dozens of people from the Monument Community were hard at work Saturday making trail improvements to honor cyclist Tim Watkins.

The volunteers joined the Friends of Monument Preserve (FOMP) and Medicine Wheel Trail Advocates in fixing up the "Renegade Trail" near Mount Herman Road.

The trail was built originally by Tim Watkins as he was an avid trail builder and maintainer to the area.

The trail stretches for a mile and a half, the group wanted to assure it's safety for hikers, horseback riders and mountain bikers.

Tim Watkins was murdered last month while riding his bike on a trail in the Mount Herman area. Hundreds have gathered to honor him in multiple community events as he had a powerful impact on people.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the incident, so far no arrests have been made.
