Free dental clinic coming to Pueblo

Posted: Updated:

PUEBLO - The 11th Annual Colorado Mission of Mercy (COMOM) is holding it's free dental clinic from Oct. 13-14 in Pueblo. The event will be held at the Colorado State Grounds at 1001 Buelah Ave. providing free dental treatment to children and adults who have limited financial resources.

The event will open at 6:00 a.m. both days, those seeking dental care are advised to go through the main entrance of the Fairgrounds. COMOM says their goal is to treat up to 800 patients each day on a first-come, first-serve basis.

All ages are welcome to the event but children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. There will be nearly 1,000 volunteers at the event including 200 dentists and 100 dental hygienists.

This is the second time COMOM has held this clinic in Pueblo, in 2012 a reported 1,682 patients attended the event.

“The largest clinic COMOM ever had was held in Pueblo five years ago,” recalls Karen Perko C.D.A., one of the Pueblo site chair's for this year's clinic. “The need in our community is substantial and that is one of the primary reasons for the clinic’s return to this area.”

In a media release COMOM explains how oral health can affect the entire body in compromising nutrition, communication, self esteem and more.

Over the last 10 years COMOM has reportedly helped more than 13,000 patients in providing over $10,600,000 in donated dental care.
