Several arrests in illegal marijuana grown in San Isabel National Forest

Posted: Updated:
SALIDA -

Four people are arrested after the discovery of a marijuana grow operation southeast of Salida in San Isabel National Forest.

The bust was a joint effort between several federal and local agencies, resulting in the arrest of four Mexican nationals. Law enforcement officers seized 4,213 marijuana plants, a handgun and recovered and removed 1,500 pounds of cultivation infrastructure. That includes irrigation pipe, pesticides, flammable liquids, camping gear and trash.

This bust serves as a reminder to hikers and campers of the dangers associated with stumbling on an illegal grow operation. Law enforcement officers said safety concerns include booby traps, armed growers and even the toxic chemicals.

If you come across an illegal grow on public land, immediately leave the area the same way that you came and call 911 to report your location once you are clear of the site.
