COLORADO SPRINGS -

Colorado Springs fire crews were able to quickly put out a small fire at a homeless camp site Thursday afternoon.

It was called in on the  300 block of  S. 8th St. by business owners who heard a loud popping sound in the area. They initially reported an explosion near Fountain Creek.

Fire crews said it was likely started by a small can with compressed gas, such as hairspray or shaving cream. The fire was extremely small and they were able to put it out with a hand held extinguisher.

The fire was not threatening any businesses and no one was hurt. Colorado Springs police officers arrived to help fire crews question anyone who may have been in the area. There was no one at the camp when they arrived.
